NOTICE OF SUPPLY

Licensed vehicles by bodytype, keepership, and licence status for Output Areas (OA 2021) in the United Kingdom, as at 31 December 2025

The Data folder contains a CSV file with a data table disclosed by the UK Department for Transport (DfT), on behalf of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA), on 14 May 2026. The data was disclosed to me in response to information requests made on 29 April 2026 under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and the Re-use of Public Sector Information Regulations 2015.

I have renamed the file but no changes have been made to the data. The data relates to each 2021 Census Output Area (OA) in England and Wales, each 2022 Census Output Area (OA) in Scotland, and each 2021 Census Data Zone (DZ) in Northern Ireland. The data does not contain any suppression of small numbers.

A copy of relevant correspondence with DfT is included in the Docs folder.

DfT would like the following noted:

"Vehicles are allocated to an output area according to the postcode of the registered keeper. This is the keeper's address for privately owned vehicles or the company's registered address for company owned vehicles. The address does not necessarily reflect where the vehicle is located. This is especially true for large fleets kept by companies involved with vehicle management, leasing or rentals. Significant changes in the number of vehicles from year to year can often occur when these companies change their registered address."

DfT has confirmed that the data may be re-used under the terms of the Open Government Licence v3 (http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/doc/open-government-licence/version/3/).

Information about the Open Government Licence (OGL) is available on the UK National Archives website.

As DfT has not provided a specific attribution statement, the OGL requires use of the following: "Contains public sector information licensed under the Open Government Licence v3.0."

Alternatively you may wish to use this expanded version: "Contains public sector information from DfT/DVLA © Crown copyright and database right 2026, licensed under the Open Government Licence v3.0."
